Alprazolam can be used by patients diagnosed with anxiety and depression that need to keep the symptoms under control to enjoy normal life. This drug can develop an addiction with such withdrawal symptoms as tingling, seizures, muscle twitching, loss of appetite, trouble concentrating, diarrhea, and blurred vision possible if you stop the treatment suddenly. It's therefore recommended to stop your treatment gradually taking less and less of alprazolam. You may be started on a lower dose of this medicine and will need to tell your health care provider if you need a higher dose. However, make sure you never increase the dose yourself, as this may lead to an overdose and a number of unpleasant side effects. The following mild side effects are sometimes possible: dry mouth, irritability, tiredness, changes in appetite, increased salivation, light-headedness, weight changes, changes in sex drive or ability, drowsiness, and dizziness. Since they tend to be short-lived, you do not need to report them to your doctor. Never take more of alprazolam, as an overdose can be lethal. Make sure you seek emergency medical help if you get any of the following symptoms of an overdose: coma, problems with coordination, confusion, and drowsiness.
